Not to be deterred by the rain, wellies and waterproofs on, we headed to Wisley RHS to burn some of our 5 year old boy’s energy off. There was a stark contrast between the cold and wet of the gardens with some daffodils and the welcomed humidity and vibrancy of the glasshouse.
Back home to weekend chores interspersed with making bread sticks for my 11/2 year old. Gone are the days when I could just buy a packet as they now contain ingredients he is allergic to. Still it will make me a better cook!
210g strong white flour
1 1/2 tsp dried yeast
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
Place Flour and sugar in bowl making well in middle
Put yeast on one side of the bowl and the salt on the other ( never place salt with yeast as will kill it)
Slowly bring ingredients together with the water to form a dough (you may not need to add all the water to combine)
Oil your surface and knead dough from wet stage until it is soft, silky and smooth
Place in an oiled bowl loosely covered with cling-film and put into a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in volume
Knock back dough to remove air by folding over on itself
Divide into 12 balls and roll into a sausage about 20cm by 1.5 cm
Place on oiled baking sheet and brush each with a little oil
Bake for about 10 mins at 180c until golden
