Chocolate marble cake for tea

I have play dates coming out of my ears today…one for me and one for my 5 year old. It would be wrong not to provide cake wouldn’t it?!

Marble cake is the way forward with its rich vanilla cake and chocolate swirl…well it should have been a swirl but ended up more like a splodge!

Paul Hollywood does a great version

200g butter
200g caster sugar
1.5 tsp vanilla extract
3 large eggs
250g plain flour
3 tsp baking powder
40 ml milk
2 tsp unsweetened cocoa ( Green & Blacks good)

Oven 180c . Line 1 kg loaf tin

Cream butter with 180g sugar and vanilla extract
Beat in eggs one at a time with addition of spoonfuls of flour if it looks like it will curdle
Fold in rest of flour and baking powder
Stir in 2 tbsp milk

Dollop 2/3 mixture into tin

Stir in sifted cocoa powder, rest of sugar and milk into remaining mixture

Spoon the chocolate mix into tin and gently swirl the two mixes in e tin together

Bake for about 55 minutes until cake springs back on touch and a skewer comes out clean.

Cool and consume!
